Trevor Mbakwe is granted sixth year of eligibility and will use it at University of Minnesota

Fans watch a men's basketball game in the 2010-2011 season. Trevor Mbakwe had an impressive record this season, making him a very promising player for 2011-2012. (Photo from Creative Commons)

Last season, Trevor Mbakwe had an impressive record, being selected for the All-Big Ten First Team and leading in scoring and rebounding. Unfortunately, all good things come to an end and it ended for Mbakwe in November with an ACL tear.

Of course, there's always a silver lining, right? The NCAA allowed Mbakwe to play for a sixth year in 2012-2013, and he plans to continue on with the Gophers. Because his injury made him ineligible to play after only seven games, he will be allowed to "re-do" the season, hopefully without the injury. In 2013, Mbakwe will receive his Master's degree, his second degree while playing on the team, which is rather rare for college athletes, who usually earn only their undergraduate degree.

Hopefully next season will go better for Mbakwe!
