Gophers can’t score enough goals to beat the Sioux

The Gophers hockey team was unable to put enough pucks between the pipes last weekend vs the North Dakota Fighting Sioux as they lost Friday nights game in overtime and then tied 1-1 on Saturday night. I was glued to the TV Friday night and I have to admit the Gophers played well on their home Mariucci Arena ice, but you can’t win games against tough opponents by only scoring one goal. The game winner for the Sioux was a shot for the highlight reels as the Sioux player batted a mid air puck as he was falling to the ice. It was fluky, but it counts and cost the Gophers a win.

I must confess I went out Saturday night and didn’t see that game, but I saw the sports highlights which including some skirmishes and scuffles and not just in the stands! Everyone knows the Gopher and Sioux fans don't get along, but neither do the players and the coaches?! In fact the Sioux head coach got suspended for a few games thanks to his “read between the lines” finger gesture. It was a tough series for the struggling Gophers. There are only a few weekends left before the WCHA playoffs and I am starting to get nervous that the Gophers won’t make it.
